Kemmannu, August 15, 2017: 71st Independence Day was celebrated at Kemmannu church with the fervor and deep patriotism associated with the day. After the high mass, celebrated by Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Victor D Souza, parishioners joined at the church compound to celebrate the the occasion. Parish priest Fr. Victor D Souza presided over the function. The day coincides with the Feast Assumption of Mother Mary.

 Mr. Charles Lewis along with Mr. Felix Pinto welcomed the people who were present.  Fr. Victor unfurled the National flag. National anthem was sung and everyone saluted the national flag with great respect.Fr. Victor delivered the speech appropriate for the occasion. Student Miss Sweeny Fernandes also presented her speech.

Simultaneously Catholic Sabha organized a ‘Prathibha Puraskar’ ceremony for the students who had excelled in the last academic year. Fr. Victor along with Mrs. Benedicta Saldanha and Church Vice President Mr. Charles Lewis presented the shields, Shawl and garland to the winners. The trophies were sponsored by late Roque Saldanha’s family in memory of   late Fr. J. J. Saldanha. And Late Mr. Roque Saldanha.
