HIGHLIGHTS Maratha Kranti Morcha: Lakhs gather at Azad Maidan, CM orders sops, Mumbaiites not hit

While schools were shut and 10,000 policemen were deployed, protest did not affect commuters much

This is likely to be the last rally for the Maratha community, which has been demanding reservation in government jobs and education. It is their third attempt to hold a march in Mumbai after the first two failed following internal differences. At the end of the rally, CM Devendra Fadnavis promised Marathas concession in fees to 605 educational courses, interest-free loans up to Rs10 lakh for self-employment, Rs5 crore to each district for the construction of hostels and setting up of a district-wise committee to decide on cases filed under the Atrocities Act.
