Actress Kamya Punjabi Challenges Taboos: ‘Menopause Is Power, not a Pause’

Actress Kamya Punjabi has sparked a powerful conversation with her unapologetic statement on menopause, calling it a phase of empowerment rather than decline. Speaking about her upcoming film Me No Pause Me Play, she said, “Menopause is power, not a pause. It’s the moment a woman stops apologizing for who she is and starts embracing who she’s become.”

Her words reflect the spirit of Me No Pause Me Play — India’s first Hindi feature film on menopause, produced by Digifilming and Mirrro Films. The film aims to shatter one of society’s deepest taboos by portraying menopause not as an ending, but as a bold new beginning in a woman’s life.

Featuring Kamya Punjabi, Deepshikha Nagpal, Sudha Chandran, Manoj Kumar Sharma, Amiee Misobbah, and Aman Verma, the film explores the emotional, physical, and social transformations women experience during this natural phase. It highlights courage, identity, and self-acceptance — themes rarely represented on the big screen.

Adapted from the acclaimed book by Manoj Kumar Sharma, who also serves as the writer and producer, the film is directed by Samar K Mukherjee with cinematography by Akram Khan.

Kamya added, “We’ve spoken openly about puberty and pregnancy, but menopause still makes people uncomfortable. It’s time to change that. Women don’t lose their essence during menopause — they rediscover it.”

Director Samar K Mukherjee described the project as “a movement in itself,” while producer Manoj Kumar Sharma called it “a cinematic mirror to society’s silence.”

Set to release on November 28, 2025, Me No Pause Me Play redefines womanhood — proving that life doesn’t stop with change; it evolves with strength, wisdom, and unapologetic grace.
