Mira D’Silva to contest for the Australian Federal Elections 2025.
From the desk of the Karaval Konkans Australia Inc. editorial
The Konkani speaking community of Australia specially in and around Melbourne have something to celebrate and be proud of. Mira D’Silva, an ardent supporter of the Karaval Konkans community has been confirmed as the Liberal candidate for the Lalor seat in Victoria.
Mira’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. Born and brought up in Bengaluru to Mangalorean (Kulshekar) origin parents, Mira migrated to Australia a little over two decades ago and has embraced this place as her home. From doing the odd job as a first-generation migrant to now being recognised as a force to reckon with, across the Australia political landscape, Mira’s journey is nothing short of inspiring.
The success, accolades and recognition, have not in any way alienated Mira from her roots, culture and heritage. As one who is proud to profess her love for her mother tongue, Konkani, Mira is equally grateful to her country of birth, India, whose multicultural demography has helped Mira’s perspective of life evolve and be ready for the challenges that lie ahead of her. In a recent interview with the Karaval Konkans Australia team, Mira shared some interesting anecdotes and life experiences which definitely demonstrated that Mira’s principles and living values can surely be the strongest foundation for success.
A successful entrepreneur, Mira’s philanthropy, her support for Konkani culture and heritage and for all newcomers into Australia is very well known. A conversation with Mira will leave you spellbound with her commitment to language, culture, community and social causes expecting nothing in return.
The first Mangalurean Konkani speaking community member to get into Australian politics, Mira now relies on the support of everyone around her in this challenging election. A win for Mira will be a matter of pride and a sense of achievement for everyone who came to Australia as migrants and can now dare to dream.
Karaval Konkans Australia Inc, wishes Mira the very best in this Federal election. Should members of the community wish to volunteer to assist on the campaign trail do register on this link https://www.miradsilva.com.au/volunteer to connect with her election team in Melbourne.
The Lalor seat covers 180 square kilometres on the south-western edge of Melbourne. It incorporates the Melbourne satellite city of Werribee, and includes the suburbs of Werribee, Hoppers Crossing, Tarneit, Williams Landing and parts of Truganina and Point Cook. The Federal elections have been called on 3 May 2025. The journey is not an easy one and an election is only won when you have everyone rallying behind and supporting you to the finish line. Let us a a community come together and create history, by getting Mira as the first Mangalorean into the Canberra corridors.
