MU Vice Chancellor inaugurates one-day workshop on NEP syllabus

Mangalore: Political science teachers should be able to give theoretical angle to the developments happening in society. Though over specialization and compartments have created problem, inter-disciplinary approach can help us, opined Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. Jayaraj Amin.
Addressing the gathering after inaugurating a one-day workshop on fifth and sixth semester NEP syllabus for B.A, organized by Mangalore University Political Science Teachers’ Association (MUPSTA), Department of Political Science of Mangalore University, in association with IQAC and Political Science Department of University College Mangalore at Dr. Shivarama Karantha hall here on Saturday, he said that students should study political science with sociology, economics and related subjects. Political science will never lose its importance as it’s a dynamic in nature.

Chief Guest, Mangalore University Department of P.G Studies & Research in Political Science Chairman Prof. P. L. Dharma said that NEP- 2020 never imposes any ‘ism’ on us, but makes us to think. It’s time for teachers to learn again and upgrade themselves. A teacher should be creative and enthusiastic to creative enough to create interest among students. “Never underestimate any student,” he added.
Presiding over the event, Principal Dr. Anasuya Rai also stressed on the importance of getting ourselves updated being a teacher. MUPSTA President Prof. Shani K. R welcomed the gathering, while Prof. Shahbar Pasha extended vote of thanks. Rukmaya mastered the ceremony. Political Science Department Head Prof. Latha A. Pandit, MUPSTA Secretary Dr. Ganesh Shetty, IQAC Coordinator Dr. Siddaraju M.N were present among others.
Nuclear bomb…a weapon of peace!
In his session on ‘International Relations’, MAHE Department of Geopolitics and International Relations Assistant Professor Prof. Ravindranathan P., said that incidents like 9/11 attack, created an awareness about the importance of international relations. Now, cooperation between countries has been increased in the fields like security, economic development, human right, health, business, trade etc. Though nuclear tests shook the international relations, gradually when many countries had nuclear bombs, it turned into a weapon of peace, he said. University College Mangalore Department of Economics Head Prof. Jayavantha Nayak spoke about political economy and New Agricultural Policy 2000 in India. Political Science faculty Rukmaya M, Raghu and Dr. Ashalatha P spoke on ‘Karnataka Government and Politics’.
