Udupi: Milagres Table Tennis Team once again Champions….!!!

Milagres College in Kallianpur is a hub for various sports and games activities both indoor and outdoor, as the students are very regular and enthusiastically involved in the events of their likes and preferences. Provisions and facilities for table tennis are in place in this College, since many years and it is both a popular form of recreation and recognition in the surrounding and at the University level.

Other day it was double dhamaka, as the College TT teams representing both men and women received Trophies for their scintillating performances - Yes, our Milagres Men’s Team won the Champion’s Title at the University level inter-collegiate TT Tournament. Our Women’s team too narrowly missed the crown, however they too are Runners–up, 2022….!! Mr Nithesh of III B Com is adjudged as the Best Player of the Tournament.

In short, Table Tennis is a lively indoor game that resembles a miniature version of tennis. Here players use rackets to hit a ball back and forth over a net that stretches across a table. The teams score points by hitting the ball so to their opponent or opponents cannot return it. The game is played by two – Singles, or four – Doubles.

Our Men’s Team was represented by, Nithish Suvarna, Christon Noronha, Ankush Shettigar, Shashank Shet and Suman whereas the Women’s Team comprised of Velonia Mascarenhas, Selma Picardo, Kavya, Roopa and Ramya Naik.

MCK Men’s Team recorded a spectacular success in last few years continuously as the same is continued, this year as they beat FMKMC College comfortably 3-0, and rightfully secured First place in the Championship round which was held at Bhandarkar’s College, Kundapura.

Women’s Team participating for the first time at the University level need special praises as they secured the Second place in the tournament, narrowly missing the crown as they faced the formidable Poorna Prajna College team Udupi, in a close tussle, which ended 2-3.

The College remain grateful to Mr Raj Bengre, our alumnus and a great philanthropist a passionate sports supporter, for his wonderful support towards the training the sports persons. Our Physical education Director, Mr Nikhil Rahul DSouza has trained the teams to achieve this spectacular success.

On Monday, 21st July, the College family organised a felicitation programme to congratulate the all the Team Members and Principal Dr Vincent Alva had all praises to both Men & Women team who brought laurels and fame with their best performances throughout in the University level Tournament. IQAC Coordinator Dr Jagdish Shettigar, Vice Principal Prof Sophia Dias, Phy. Director Mr Nikhil R. Dsouza, members of both teaching and non-teaching staff and the students’ fraternity were present to witness the event.
