Mumbai rains: Case filed against Dosti Realty after wall collapses into neighbouring Lloyd’s Estate in Wadala
A case has been filed against Dosti Realty Ltd after an under-construction wall collapsed in Wadala early Monday morning. The wall collapsed into neighbouring Lloyd’s Estate, resulting in the road caving in and subsequent burial of at least 15 vehicles.
“Antop Hill police station is registering a case against Dosti Realty Limited under sections 336 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 287 (Negligent conduct with respect to machinery) in the road cave incident,” confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone IV, N Ambika.
A number of residents of the building even blamed Dosti builders. "Woke up at 4 am to find my building Lloyd Estate’s parking cave in. Is this because of #MumbaiRains or irresponsible construction by Dosti Builders? The entire Wadala East around @vidyalankar college is choked and water logged due to this (sic)," she said.
The hi-rise, 32-floor Lloyd’s Estate is located opposite Vidyalankar College comprises two wings. Each floor has four flats, with every seventh floor having a refuge point.
The building has basement parking as well as slit. The wall collapse, which happened early Monday morning at around 4 am, has resulted in a portion of the approach road to the basement collapsing, causing the caving in of at least 15 cars. According to reports, an entire wing has been vacated.
No injuries have been reported so far, but fire brigade officials are present at the spot for rescue operations.
One of the residents tweeted what had happened. "Woke up to a loud noise early in the morning (around 4 am) but realized while looking out of our window around 7 am. The compound wall of Lloyds Estate (C&D Wing), Antop Hill, Wadala East had collapsed. Thankfully nobody’s hurt! (sic)"
On Monday morning, the city witnessed heavy showers from Mahim to Elphinstone Road, with the suburbs fluctuating between light and heavy showers in the morning. "Traffic is moving slow at Khar subway, Malad subway & Andheri subway due to water logging," Mumbai police tweeted.
Private weather operator Skymet cautioned office goers that they may face trouble thanks to delayed train services, flight delays and road traffic congestions.
Central Railway commuters have already announced that slow train services – both Up and Down are running 15 to 20 minutes late. Western Railway Slow down local trains were running late by 10-15 minutes due to a technical problem at Bandra station.
The weather service also warned that the rains would continue for the next 12 hours. “After heavy showers of 195 mm in 21 hours over #Mumbai, expect rains to remain hefty for another 12 hours,” Skymet tweeted.
