Indian Priest in Georgia Hindu temple sentenced to 27 yrs in jail
Annamalai Annamalai (49), also known as Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar has been sentenced to 27 years in prison.
An Indian-origin priest of a Georgia Hindu Temple which is now not existing was convicted for tax and bank frauds in August 2009. Annamalai faces charges of misusing temple funds for his personal use and for misguiding his followers to fund him. He also faces charges of fraud and deliberate intentions to financially rob people.
He used to attract depressed people and make them victims of his financial frauds. In name of special pills, pujas and homams , Annamalai used to take credit card details and later misuse them for funding his personal lifestyle without authorization. Once the victim finds out about frauds, this Indian priest provided false and manipulated audio messages of victims.
Even though the punishment of prison life is severe and for long time, it is justified feel victims of this priest. Annamalai and his family own multiple property of houses and lands, luxury vehicles brought using temple funds. The temple became defunct after the priest turned out to be a fraud and after two-week trail was sent to jail for further investigation. The verdict for this case came on Wednesday, pronouncing Annamalai as guilty and a quantum of punishment of 27 years of prison life.
