Two arrested for duping job aspirants

Kasargod: Police have arrested two persons for duping people off crores of rupees with false promises of providing employment in Singaporean ships. The arrested have been identified as Abdul Lathif (35) from Mulleria Nettanige and Rakesh (28) from Udama Palakunnu. It is learnt that over ten other persons were allegedly involved in this fraud, and all of them have gone underground. It is alleged that the duo demanded Rs 1. 25 lakh per visa for securing them jobs in ships operating from Singapore. The aspirants were promised with heavy-paying jobs, it is said.
The duo demanded payment of Rs 40,000 to Rs 60,000 per person in advance. Many people reportedly paid the money as demanded above, duly selling their valuable possessions in order to land in the foreign country for the promised jobs. But when the promises were not fulfilled, many approached the above persons to either ask for a refund or provide them with promised visas. But the duo left them high and dry, and just disappeared without any trace. Avinash, Ajith and Sajith from Kasargod and Rajendran, Muhammed and Ashraf from Thiruvananthapuram had lodged police complaints alleging that they had been cheated.
The police are now on the look-out for the others involved in this fraud.
