After Delhi defeat, Amit Shah tones down son’s wedding ceremony

Print The gloom in the BJP camp was palpable with party president Amit Shah opting for a toned down wedding ceremony of his son Jay Shah in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
As early trends pointed to a clear victory for AAP in Delhi, Mr. Shah is believed to have decided against a display of firecrackers and musical band when his son’s wedding procession made its way from his residence to the wedding venue Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA).
“Understandably, it is a quiet affair,” a wedding guest told media persons.
Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh attended the high-profile event, but refused to comment on the Delhi election results.
Mr. Shah, himself, did not break his silence on his party’s crushing defeat as he left the wedding venue in the afternoon.
Speaking at the Ahmedabad airport, Union Minister of State Rajiv Pratap Rudy said, “In a democracy we have to accept a good victory. The people of Delhi have accepted the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal. We hope he fulfils the aspirations of Delhi’s citizens.”
Congratulating AAP, Coal and Power Minister Piyush Goyal said no one person can be held responsible for BJP’s defeat. “Our party has won so many elections and I do not think a wave can get over in 15 days.”
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev, industrialists Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani were also present at the ceremony.
