Police arrests man for raping, posing murder threat to married woman

Bantwal: In a shameful act, the police have been successful in arresting a person who had entered the house of a married woman in Anantady village near Vittal during the day on Friday when she was alone, raped her and fled after threatening her of murdering her if she revealed about the rap to her husband or others. On being produced in the court, he was remanded to judicial custody. Naveen (30) from Karinka had raped the lady, who happens to be the mother of two. Locals said that Naveen is addicted to liquor and ganja, and has the habit of chasing good-looking girls. On Monday morning, the policemen got information that the accused was in Kadeshwalya. A team of Vittal police rushed there and took him into custody. Station house officer of Vittal, Raghavendra T R, and other personnel were involved with the operation.
Fight erupts between jail inmates in Mangaluru, three injured
Mangaluru: In an incident reported, a fight erupted between the Mangaluru jail inmates belonging to different communities on Monday, January 19. According to the sources, vegetable curry was poured on the accused in the Derlakatte student kidnap and rape case namely Rauf and Arafath by some inmates belonging to another community. Mangaluru jail having two isolated cells, only one cell has the provision of video conferencing facility. The incident occurred when Rauf and Arafath were brought to the cell equipped with the video-conferencing facility for interrogation. Three including a jailor were injured. Murder of woman at Panambur - Two arrested
Mangaluru: The police have been successful in arresting two individuals in connection to the brutal murder of a married woman that took place on the night of January 12, Monday, at Meenkaliya, Panambur. Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, January 20, DCP (crime) Vishnuvardhan said that the arrested have been identified as Ajju alias Ajju Pradhan (23) and Vrindavan Pradhan (38), both hailing from Ganjam, Odisha and presently residing at Meenakaliya. The culprits were caught at Suratkal railway station on Monday evening, January 19. Kalpana (25) from Madhya Pradesh was murdered when her husband Rajesh and another relative were at work on the night of January 12. The DCP said that the accused forcibly entered into the room and attempted to rape Kalpana, and when she resisted, they assaulted her with a sickle and pounded her with pieces of iron pipes and stones. Panambur police station had registered a case. During investigation, no clues were found to trace the culprits, but the police found that two persons, who were residing in a room in the building occupied by workers had gone absconding. Although it was initially said that Kalpana was from Uttar Pradesh, it was later found that she was from Madhya Pradesh.
Missing college girl appears before court along with lover
Kasargod: A college girl who was reported missing since the past few days, on January 19, Monday appeared before a court in the city along with a youth of another community with whom she had eloped. It has also been gathered that she had undergone a religious conversion. Though the father of the girl who was present at the court wished to take his daughter home, a group which had come along with the girl and her boyfriend,� opposed the same disturbing the proceedings in the first class magistrate court here for a few minutes. The police who rushed to the spot tried to disperse the crowd when Additional Sub-Inspector of Manjeshwar P Vijayan sustained injuries in his hand in the melee. Finally, additional police forces were summoned and cops had to resort to a mild lathi charge to quell the mob. It is learnt, the girl’s father too had several supporters with him. The 18 year old girl from Chandrapura had gone missing on January 15 following with a missing complaint was lodged. According to her father’s version she had eloped with a 20 year old youth from Santosh Nagar who belonged to another religion. When the magistrate questioned the girl, she said she had gone with the youth out of her own accord and also expressed her unwillingness to return to her family. Meanwhile, the court which noted that the youth was not of marriageable age, did not allow the girl to go with him. The police said she would be accommodated in the government Mahila Mandiram here.
