Bengaluru blast: NIA detains two suspects in Bhatkal

BENGALURU: The Central Crime Branch of the Bengaluru police have detained two men suspected to be involved in the December 28, 2014 blast in the city.
 
The blast triggered off on Church Street had left a woman dead and five others injured.
 
The two detentions were made following an operation in the coastal town of Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka.
 
A police officer only described the operation as "a big Indian Mujahideen (IM) catch from Bhatkal". The police, however, stopped short of going into the details of the operations.

But police sources told that the two men have already been brought to Bengaluru and they are being questioned, currently at an undisclosed location in the city.
 
A team of police from Bangaluru on Thursday raided several locations in Bhatkal town in Uttara Kannada district. Police carried out the raids in very secret manner without even informing the local police.

According to the sources a team of police raided the house of Mohammad Hussein of Shirkuli whose door was locked. He was said to be admitted in a hospital in Calicut a week ago. Police broke open the house and checked it.
 
A house of leader of Popular Democratic Front of India (PDF) was also checked and police seized gelatine sticks it is said. Another house in Madina colony was also raided and checked by the police. Police have taken two persons into their custody and were taken to Udupi for the interrogation. Police claim seizure of explosives. Gelatin sticks, Ammonium Nitrate and digital circuitry were recovered from Bhatkal by Central Crime Branch DCP Abhishek Goyal told TOI.
 
Bhatkal has been in the eye of anti-terror operations as two brothers from the town have been identified as leading operatives of IM. One of them, Yasin Bhatkal, is currently lodged in a Delhi jail. The brothers are suspected to be involved in several blasts across the country.

Police carried out the raids in very secret manner without even informing the local police. This is again brought the focus on Bhatkal a tiny town on Western coast in Utara Kannada district in Karnataka that town has become the safe haven for those who carry out terror strike in various parts of the country.

Local police also said that they have no idea what had happened during the raid.Two suspects in Bengaluru Church Street blast were detained by a special police team in Bhatkal, Dakshina Kannada, on Thursday.

Locals alleged that the house was locked and police broke the lock to enter the house without informing anyone. The house owner was admitted to Calicut Hospital since past few days.
 
No one has been taken into custody from this house whose owner is Muhammed Hussain.
 
Detention was made on the tip given by National Investigating Agency.
 
"Need time to comment more on suspects," the special team said.
