Print Mumbai: With Christmas right around the corner, city shops are packed with customers frantically grabbing decor like silver and gold painted reindeers, ladder climbing Santas and colourful mistletoes before stock run out.
"Christmas is no longer a festival celebrated just by the Christians. In fact today’s generation, celebrates any religious festival enthusiastically. We start putting up the decor a month before and most of the stuff comes from Delhi. However, it’s usually a week before D-Day that sales really pickup," said Shivam Arora, a seller.
This season, led lights reindeers, the musical Santa, statues of the apostle, Santa musical bells and Santa climbing up a ladder are fresh arrivals, and are selling like hotcakes.
"My son only wants the Santa mask and the dress for himself," said Alin Thomas buying the smallest dress available for kids in the market priced at Rs 150.
The other item on wish list is the Santa socks which are on display in various designs and sizes. The cheapest costing Rs 50 and the costliest one at Rs 125.
"People now know names of all the myriad Christmas products, and exactly specify the kind of stuff they want. Earlier they only used to demand Christmas trees — probably the only decor they knew. But, now they demand mistletoes, reindeer headbands and Christmas string baubles confidently," said Vikas Chandna, selling Christmas decor for years in the city.
