Use ’chaati’ against those who torment women, says Udupi-Chikkamagalur MP
MANGALURU: Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje on Sunday advocated the use of whip to deal with those who molest ’our’ women and take away ’our’ cattle. And this piece of impromptu advice was inspired by a move of Hindu Seva Sangha to present her and two other dignitaries at the Tulu Nadad Krishi Kranti at Brahmarakootlu near here with a traditional whip used to tame buffaloes while they are used in the fields.
The organisers present Shobha, Nalin Kumar Kateel, Dakshina Kannada MP and Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat, South-Central regional sampark pramukh with a traditional shawl, a muttale (head gear made out of areca nut) and a whip and the other guests with shawl and a muttale. Shobha admired the beauty of the colourful whip used more ornamentally than in actual use and even chatted with Rajesh Naik Ulipadiguttu, the organiser about the same.
Later in the inaugural address, Shobha said the organisers could have given the trio, who hold important positions in society the whip to discharge their duties and ward off those who harass women and steal cattle from households. Recalling her recent visit to Lakya hobli in Tarikere taluk in Chikkamagalur district, Shobha said cattle thieves had shown the temerity not only to skin a livestock alive and take its meat and leave the horns behind.
Noting that instances of atrocities against women are on the rise, Shobha said the society should use the whip against such persons. Earlier, interacting with reporters, Shobha urged the state government not to bring kiss of love to Karnataka. This is an act of an uncivilised government, which does not hesitate to resort to personal attacks to deflect people’s attention to its misdeeds. "People of the state are watching the government," she said.
