Govt to privatise six ports including Malpe
Malpe/Bengaluru : The state government is all set to privatise six ports including Malpe.
Addrresing the press persons Textile and Port Minister Baburao Chinchanasura said that Malpe, Manki, Paavinakurve, Belikeri Tadagi ports will be handed over to the private players for a lease period of 30 years.
The ports will developed on Public-Private-Partnership model. Further the government will regulate the port trade, the Minister informed.
All these aspects will be finalised during the meeting between the department secretaries and private companies. A final decision will be taken within one month, he added.
Private companies will take up the port development activities and its expenditure. A share of port trade will also be given to the government, Baburao Chinchanasura said.
Women’s Commission takes responsibility of rape victim rescued from Udupi
Udupi : The Karnataka State Commission for women has come forward to take the responsibility of the 21-year-old woman rape victim who was rescued from the street of Udupi by social worker Vishu Shetty Ambalpady.
The girl who was in a distraught state and was seen begging for food in the temple town was rescued by Vishu Shetty Ambalpady on November 13. She was in such a pathetic state that other than her name the girl was not in a position to reveal any other detail. However, on being admitted to the government hospital, the girl had revealed how she was abused by several men and how she resorted to alcohol and other intoxication to forget her bitter experiences.
Shetty had briefed the Commission’s President Manjula Manasa about the girl who sent Advocate Shymala Bhandary of Kundapur to the district hospital.
Shymala Bhandary who went along with Vishu Shetty to hospital directed the hospital authorities to provide necessary treatment. She also requested the police station to deploy a policeman to the hospital for the security of the girl.
The girl who is recuperating said that her parents have died and after their death she was raped and harassed constantly.
As of now, Shetty has only been able to find that she hails from Kasargod.
Youth arrested for raping minor girl three months ago
Padubidri: An 18-year-old youth was arrested by Padubidri Police on Monday, November 17, for raping a minor girl three months ago.
The arrest was made based an online complaint sent by Udupi Child Development Officer.
The accused is Haneef, son of Bashir from Padubidri Kanchinadka.
The Child Development Officer through a email had directed the Police to initiate necessary against Haneef and to take up investigations.
The police have recorded the statement of the girl who is now in Nittoor Bala Mandira.
Six months ago Haneef is said to have tried to persuade the girl to get married to him. The girl who rejected his advances had told Haneef not to follow her. Meanwhile the girl’s family shifted from Kanchinadka to Surathkal as their house was undergoing repair. On August 10 the girl’s mother went to Mangalore to buy medicine for her younger sister. Haneef who came to know about this barged into her house and raped her. He also threatened to kill her if she revealed the truth.
The child welfare committee officials who were informed about this incident admitted the girl in Wenlock Hospital. She was later taken to the Bala Mandir in Nittoor.
Padubidri police are investigating the case.
Serial mishap leaves auto driver severely injured
Hemmady : An auto rickshaw driver sustained grievous injuries in a serial road mishap that took place near Hemmady dairy circle on Monday, November 17.
The auto rickshaw driver is Raju. The auto rickshaw which was hit first by the bus from behind, ran into a tipper plying ahead of it. The impact of the collision was such that the auto turned turtle on the road. While seriously injured Raju was rushed to the hospital, the passenger in the auto escaped with minor injuries.
A case has been registered in Kundapur police station.
Maid from Jharkhand found dead under mysterious circumstances
Kundapur : A 23-year-old woman hailing from Jharkhand died under mysterious circumstances. The dead body which was found hanging from a tree was recovered on Monday, November 17 at Saligrama, here.
The deceased is Hulmani Maaraandi. She was working as a domestic help at a home at Gopalkrishna Temple Road since last five days.
Sources claim that she had gone missing since Saturday and a complaint in this regard had been registered at the Kota Police Station. Police, upon receiving information about the suicide case, suspected that the deceased might be the same woman who had gone missing and hence the incident came to light.
It is said that the woman had joined work as a replacement to the former maid who quit due to ill health. Hulmani was a widow and had taken up the job due to poverty.
Suspicion around the death
Hulmani was found hanging on Monday evening in a private land situated just a few yards away from the house where she was employed. A shawl, bed-sheet and a chain bearing cross having recovered from the spot, locals claim that only they were familiar with the place and that it was not easy for outsiders to locate. This has created suspicion and curiosity in the local circle.
Brahmavar Circle Inspector Arun Naik and Kota Station Inspector K R Nayak visited the spot. Hulmani’s family having arrived here, her body has been kept in the mortuary at Kundapur. The case stands registered at Kota Police Station.
