ZP workers go on indefinite strike demanding job security
Mangaluru : The government had earlier passed an order to recruit the Zilla Panchayat workers taken on temporary basis as permanent workers. However in its policy, it had framed that only the last 10 years of work of an individual will be considered and prior work experience will not be counted.
In this backdrop, the workers under the aegis of CITU (Centre of Indian Trade Union), went on an indefinite strike from Monday, October 10 near the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat Office.
CITU leader Vasanth Achary setting the protest in motion said that the Committee led by M S Swami had recommended considering the work experience of only the past 10 years of an individual which was incorrect. Vasanth asserted that the administration must consider the total work experience of an individual. A change has to be made in the order declared by the government. This move is important as there are uneducated people employed as pump operators etc in the Gram Panchayat who will be affected by the same.
Leader Yadav Shetty said that a meet with Zilla Panchayat CEO Tulsi Maddineni has been scheduled on Tuesday, November 11 at 3 pm where they would discuss the matter and bring the problem of the panchayat workers to her notice.
