Financial loss drives businessman to set himself ablaze

Mangaluru: A businessman ended his life by setting himself ablaze at his residence, reportedly for being unable to repay the debts.

The deceased is Alwyn Praveen D’Souza (40), a resident of Bejai in Mangaluru. He had set himself ablaze on Saturday and since medical treatments yielded no results, he succumbed to injuries on Sunday.

D’Souza, who ran a tanker business faced huge losses and was in depression. He had taken huge loans from money lenders, which had become a cause of worry for him as his financial condition was such that he could not repay the amount.

A case was registered in Urwa police station and investigations were on.

Yettinahole project has started already: Moily

Mangaluru : The Theerthahalli minor girl death case has already been handed over to the CID for further investigations. Nobody should try to politicize the matter. Senior political leaders too should shun away from making derogatory remarks about the incident or about women, said former minister Veerappa Moily.

Addressing the press persons here on Sunday, November 10, Moily said “the law and order system in the State is intact. Heinous crime such as rapes take place when people lose fear of police. There is a need to take stringent action against the culprits.”

Action plan to revive Congress

Discussions are not taking place within the Congress party to change the leadership. We don’t see any need for that. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are our leaders. Defeat or Victory is inevitable. Way back in 1984 when the BJP rose to prominence did the Congress party get destroyed?, questioned Moily, adding that the Congress too will tread the path of success again and that an action plan is being formulated for the revival of the party.

He said that Modi led Bharatiya Janata Party government had made tall claims when they came to power. They talked about getting back the black money stashed in Swiss Bank, but so far nothing concrete has happened. The petrol prices have gone down due to the fall in price of crude oil in international market and not because of Modi government, Moily pointed out.

"The way the BJP has disregarded Shiv Sena in Maharashtra shows that they have forgotten history. Just because they have rose to prominence it doesn’t mean that they have to leave the people who had supported them," he added.

Yettinahole drinking water project

Yettinahole drinking water project has already started. The coastal areas will not be harmed with the implementation of the project. Only surplus rain water from Western Ghats will be used for the project. Water of River Netravathi and River Kumardhara will not be used. The MPs and the MLAs of this side have already been informed by the Chief Minister about the same, Moily said.

Responding to the query about the people protesting against the project Moily said “people are protesting as they want us to implement the project carefully.”
