A.T. Ramaswamy, who headed the Joint Legislature Committee on Encroachment of Government Land in Bangalore Urban district, on Saturday demanded that the government withdraw all financial benefits, including pension, being given to the former Police Commissioner H.T. Sangliana for his alleged involvement in fraudulently grabbing government land.
 
Mr. Ramaswamy recently alleged that Mr. Sangliana and his family forged documents to acquire six acres of gomala land in Jadevahalli of Jaala hobli in Bengaluru North taluk.

Demanding that the government initiate criminal proceedings against the former police official, Mr. Ramaswamy told presspersons that he (Mr. Sangliana) should be stripped of all police service medals and other awards given to him while he was in service. The honorary doctorates given to the official during his service should also be withdrawn, he said.
 
He said he had written to Governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala and Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, Anil Goswami in this regard.
 
15-day deadline

Mr. Ramaswamy said that during his tenure as chief of the committee, it was found that 10,956 acres of Revenue Department land were found to be encroached upon in Bengaluru even as encroachments of various other departments and agencies , including the BDA, BBMP, Muzrai and Waqf Board, were yet to be ascertained.

“We had written to 26 departments to provide us with details of the encroachments in their jurisdiction along with addresses and survey numbers several months ago. But they have not yet been furnished. We will now give a 15-day deadline to the government to provide these details, failing which we will stage dharnas outside the departments,” H.S. Doreswamy of the Anti- Land-grabbing Action Committee said.
 
Alleging that Revenue Department officials were hand-in-glove with land-grabbers, he said special courts should be set up for speedy disposal of cases pertaining to land-grabbing.
