Violence continues in Theerthahalli despite prohibitory order
Theerthahalli: Episodes of violence continued to unfurl in Theerthahlli area even on Monday, despite the prohibitory order in place, as a repercussion to the death of a minor girl from Theerthahalli who was suspected to have been raped and poisoned by perpetrators. The girl died on October 31 at Manipal Hospital leaving the people agitating against the incident.
The district administration, seeing the sensitivity of the issue, slammed Section 144 in the region from November 3 till November 10, but raged people continued to violently express their dissent against the incident.
It is said that several organizations and general public had gathered at Town Panchayat Maidan on Monday morning to hold a condolence meet but, the Superintendent of Police who arrived at the spot objected to the same and asked the people to disperse as Section 144 was in force. When the gathering refused, altercation broke out between the police and the people who soon resorted to staging protest, shouting out slogans against the police. The police resorted to lathi charge to disperse them.
At about 12 noon, another violent incident took place at Renjadakatte, about 5 km from Theerthahalli, on Shimoga-Mangalore National Highway where people set tyres ablaze and pelted stones at the police. In the incident five vehicles including vehicle of District Superintendent of Police were damaged. Delhi-Kuala Lumpur flight makes emergency landing in Bangkok
Bangkok: A New Delhi-Kuala Lumpur bound Malindo Air plane with 129 people on board on Monday made an emergency landing at Thailand’s Don Mueng Airport here after experiencing a technical problem while flying over Myanmar, the budget airlines said.
The Malaysia-based airline confirmed that the technical problem on Flight OD206, was discovered by the crew who immediately carried out the emergency checklist and alerted the air traffic control towers before diverting the aircraft to Don Mueng International Airport.
The plane, a Boeing 737-900ER, departed Indira Gandhi International Airport at 10.05 pm last night carrying 121 passengers including three infants and eight crew members.
"The aircraft was supposed to have arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) at 5.25 am this morning," said the statement, adding that it had landed safely at 2.25 am, Monday (in Bangkok).
"The passengers are being taken care of by Thai Lion Air and arrangements to put them on another flight to Kuala Lumpur at 3.45 pm (4.45 pm Malaysian time) are already under way," the airline said in a statement.
The technical issue is being investigated and has been formally reported to the relevant authorities, the engine and aircraft manufacturer, the statement said.
Malindo Air chief executive officer R Chandran told `The Star Online` that oxygen masks had been deployed soon after the problem was encountered, when the aircraft was over Yangon, Myanmar.
However, he said, this was a standard practise when an aircraft experienced decompression.
"When there is decompression, the oxygen mask will come down and the pilot will go to the safest altitude to ensure that everything is under control," he said..,
