Suspected rape victim death turns Theerthahalli tense
Theerthahalli: Suspicion shrouds the death of a suspected minor rape victim hailing from Theerthahalli, who died in Manipal hospital on October 31.
While a section of people say that the girl, who was an eighth standard student was spotted speaking to a boy from another community and when her parents chided her she consumed phenyl and ended her life, there is another version that she was first abducted by four men who came to the spot where she was waiting for the bus and took her away in a car, feed her with some inebriating substance, raped her and then abandoned her at a place about 3 kms away from Theerthahalli. Here, she was spotted by the locals who contacted her parents and thus made sure that she reached home. Whatever the versions are the truth will be out only after an investigation.
Tense situation
Theerthahalli turned tense after the incident and the police had to beef up security in the region.
With additional police force from Shing deputed in Theerthahalli, District Superintendent of Police Kaushalendra is in Theerthahalli at present.
The shops and commercial establishments remained closed and there were hardly any vehicles plying on the road. Even Rajyotsava celebration was cancelled due to the same. The bundh will continue even on Sunday, it is said.
Meanwhile, some youth even resorted to pelting stones at the residence of one of the youth and also damaged a car at the house, which is said to be the same car in which the girl was abducted. The police intervened on time and brought the situation under control.
Several instances of stone pelting were reported from various places across Theerthahalli when the girls body was being taken out for last rites.
