Six nabbed for trying to sell idols of Gods in Udupi

Udupi : The Udupi Police have arrested six persons who were trying to sell idols of Lord Srinivasa and Padmavathi estimated to cost over Rs 5 lac, in Udupi.The accused are Mahadev Naik (41) from Bhatkal, Eshwar Reddy (44) from Gadag, Sadashiv Gowda (35) from Guthigaru, Shekar Mendon (48) from Kodavoor, Venkataramana Jattappa Naik (27) from Murdudeshwar, and Basavaraj S Hanagodimath (40) from Haveri Taluk.
Based on a tip off, team led by Udupi Circle Inspector Srikanth K arrested the accused from Kalpana Lodge near Diana Circle, Udupi and seized the idols.
The idols were made of bronze and have been valued at Rs 5 lac. Investigations are on to determine the right value and also to ascertain whether they are antique idols.
Investigating officer said that the accused had revealed that the idols were brought from Shimoga and they were middlemen.
