Moral policing at Nantoor; police detain five

Mangalore : Kadri police have detained five in connection with the moral policing that took place at Nantoor on Monday, October 27.


Zabeeullaah (27), a resident of Katipalla Surathkal, who owns a shop in City Centre Mall, was spotted with a 20-year old girl belonging to other caste at Nantoor Bus Stop. A Hindutva outfit which arrived at the spot, allegedly questioned Zabeeullaah and then was brutally assaulted.


Kadri police, who learnt about this, rushed to the spot and took five men to their custody. They were produced to the court on the same night where they were subjected to a 15-days judicial custody.


According to sources, the girl originally hails from Madikeri and Zabeeullaah had brought her to Mangalore. Further investigation is on.

 

MCC vacates 18 illegal shops in Surathkal

Surathkal : Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) officials on Tuesday, October 28, vacated as many as18 shops being run without relevant licenses in Chokkabettu and Kana here.


The evacuation move came after an order from the District Commissioner and MCC officials.

During the evacuation process, clash erupted between shopkeepers/owners and the officials. The shopkeepers alleged that a lot of illegal shops were being run freely in Surathkal and no action had been taken against them. Also, the shopkeepers complained that a prior notice was not served to them.


On the other hand, MCC officials stated that they had informed the people concerned three days ago and that they had to follow the order of their higher authorities.

Rajesh Poojary murder case : HC grants bail to three

Mangalore : The Karnataka High Court has granted bail to Imran, Hussain, Irshad in connection with the murder of bajrang dal acitvist Rajesh Poojary at Kalpane, Bantwal on March 18.


The release was ordered by Judge A.V. Chandrashekara after surety of Rs 1 lac was produced by the trio.


The three persons have been asked appear in the Police Station every Sunday.


Imran, Hussain, Irshad were in judicial custody for the last six months. A re-investigation was also ordered by State Government following series of protests claiming their innocense.


Rajesh Poojary who was the main accused in autorickshaw driver Iqbal murder case was hacked to death on March 18. The police had arrested Imran, Hussain, Irshad. However many organisations demanded their release as they said that the trio were innocent.


On July 3, Home Minister K J George had handed over the case to Criminal Investigation Department.


On July 25, the bail application of the trio was rejected by Principal District and Sessions Judge, Dakshina Kannada.
