Bangalore: Five youths detained for attacking police
BANGALORE: High Grounds police on Sunday night detained five persons, including the sons of a prominent builder, after they allegedly attacked police officials.
Trouble began around 11pm after bouncers at Pebble, a bar located in Palace Grounds, Sadashivnagar, central Bangalore, took objection to some boys smoking in the no-smoking zone on the bar premises.
According to police, Karan Virwani, son of Embassy Group chairman Jitendra Virwani, allegedly fought with the bouncers at the bar. When things went out of control, bar manager Mathew alerted High Grounds police, who rushed to the spot.
There were heated arguments between the police and the boys in the bar. "They simply wouldn’t listen to us. They repeatedly dropped home minister KJ George’s name, saying he was their family friend," police said.
Police then bundled all of them out and subjected them to a medical test at Bowring Hospital, before taking them to the police station. "A senior police official called the station around 1am, asking for case details. Later, we were directed to release them. We did," police said.

Complaints
Three complaints were filed with High Grounds police. The bar manager accused the five persons of misbehaving, some of smoking ganja and attacking bouncers at the bar. High Grounds police filed a complaint accusing the five boys of attacking and misbehaving with ’on-duty’ police officials.
The last complaint was filed by one of the five accused, alleging Pebble staff and bouncers of attacking them.
What father said
My sons were at Pebble on Sunday. I happened to pass by when I noticed my son Karan sitting on the footpath with his shirt torn. He told me the bouncers chased him, after a group of boys objected to their friend Ayush being thrown out of the bar. There were 11 bouncers who beat up the boys, including my son, with rods. The boys may have argued but the bouncers had no business chasing and beating them. They could have handed over the boys to police for flouting bar rules. Why beat them?
Policemen who were there came to attack me with a lathi. I warned them against attacking me. I decided to take my son in my car to Columbia Asia hospital. It was then that about seven to eight autorickshaw drivers charged towards me. I had no choice but to run into Pebble. I then called up High Grounds police and complained.
It’s true that home minister KJ George’s son Rana George came to visit my son at the hospital. But we didn’t use any influence in this case. Is it my fault that my friend of so many years becomes the home minister?
I am not going to withdraw my complaint. Let the bar management show CCTV images so that we know who is wrong.
