UDUPI : It has been reported that the Padubidri and Kaup Police have committed atrocities on two innocent youth after picking them up from a public place and then detaining them in a government bungalow.

The two youth namely Imran (21) and Mohammad Shameem (22) of Polya in Uchila village have been admitted to Udupi District Government Hospital at Ajjarkad. It has been alleged that Kaup  constable Shivanna and Padubidri constables Suresh, Lokesh and another constable had committed atrocities on them.

The incident : On November 30, Tuesday when the two youth were standing near the Kaup new Marigudi at around 11 am, two constables including one Shivanna who arrived there by their bikes, forcibly took the two along with them. They were then reportedly taken to the government quarters at Kaup Bangelamdaian where they were detained and subject to atrocities. Later, the Padubidri constables Suresh, Lokesh and another constable who arrived there caned the two and kicked them after accusing them of theft.

It is learnt, the family of the two were not informed and their mobiles also switched off.

Meanwhile, the parents of the two youth on finding them missing had launched a search for them. The police later took them around Udupi in a car driver by Raja of Padubidri and even attacked them inside the car. They have said that the cops have threatened to fix them in a theft case and then dropped them at Padubidri station the same afternoon at around 2.30 am.

Later when the parents of the two arrived at the Padubidri station at around 8 pm on coming to know of the incident, the PSI Mahadeva Shetty let the two youth free saying they had been taken into custody for interrogation, without his knowledge.

A complaint has been loedged in this regard with the Udupi District  Superintendant of Police
