Padma Vibhushan Narayana Murthy, Padma Shri V Adimurthy, and Padma Bhushan Nandan Nilekani recognized among 100 Great IITians:
The event will be held at the Bangalore International Centre, Domlur, Bengaluru, on August 17, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
An exceptional event is set to take place in Bengaluru, organized by the IIT Alumni. The event will honor the top selected 100 IITians who, after completing their studies at IIT, chose to reject the allure of Western countries and instead decided to stay in India or return to their homeland to contribute, after getting some experience abroad.
A book titled "100 Great IITians: Dedicated to the Service of the Nation," edited by Commander V. K. Jaitly, a Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Kharagpur, features these 100 remarkable IITians. Excel India Publishers Delhi publishes the book. The book will be launched in Bengaluru on August 17, 2024, Saturday by the Honorable Governor of Karnataka, Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot ji, as the Chief Guest. Professor Rishikesha T. Krishnan, Director of IIM Bangalore, will grace the occasion as the Guest of Honor. The great IITians from Bengaluru and some other cities will be felicitated during the event.
Among the distinguished awardees are:
Ar. Achal K. Choudhary, President of IPS Group of Education Institute, Capt. N.S. Mohan Ram VSM I.N. (Retd.), who turned down MIT Boston’s offer to join the Indian Navy; Om Prakash Khanna, a great Rotarian and Philanthropist; Padma Shri C.G. Krishnadas Nair, Ex-CMD of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. Karamyogi; Padma Bhushan B. Muthuraman, Ex-Chairman of Tata International Ltd.; Satish K. Manocha, the Telecom Pioneer; Rear Admiral R.M. Bhatia (Retd.), the Warship & Submarine Builder of India;
This book presents the stories of those IITians who rejected the allure of the West and chose to stay in India or return to their homeland, contributing to India’s progress. The Editor of the book Commander V. K. Jaitly is one of the rare IITians who joined the Indian Navy after doing his B.Tech (Hons) in Electronics and Electrical Communication from IIT Kharagpur. Another unique thing about this book is that the Editor of the book has floated the Rashtrahit Foundation through which all the profits from the book will be used for social causes: 40% will be used for scholarships for the poor students getting admission into 23 IITs, 40% will be used for the tribal villages in the vicinity of IIT Kharagpur, 10% will go to PM Cares Fund and 10% will go to miscellaneous NGOs where Commander Jaitly and his wife Neetu are involved.
The book is being seen as a must-read for the young generation who will get inspired from these 100 stories and shall make India Vikasit Bharat by 2047.
