Thieves take away 600-odd temple bells from Siddi Vinayaka Temple

Print UDUPI: Thieves in decamping with 600-odd bells, including one weighing 106kg from the Nukyadi Sri Udbhava Siddi Vinayaka Temple in Kundapur taluk, sent alarm bells ringing loud to the district police top brass.
The temple at Amparu village in Kundapur taluk attracts devotees in thousands. They offer bells once their prayers are fulfilled. The temple is a repository to hundreds of bells of various sizes and weight that the devotees have donated.
The thieves who entered the temple premises decamped with more than 500-600 bells hung on the temple including the one bell that weighed 106 kg. They also took away 60 aarti plates.
The total value of the stolen materials is estimated to be Rs 2 lakh. A case has been registered under section 380 (theft) of Indian Penal Code at Shankarnarayana Police station.
