Janata Parivar formation hindered, merger unlikely before Bihar polls
Patna: Another attempt to bring together the parties which were once a part of the previous Janata Dal is not making much headway. The Janata Parivar formation has run into fresh trouble and indications are that merger as a single party is unlikely to happen before Bihar elections scheduled in later in 2015.

Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal yadav on Sunday said there are differences mainly on technical grounds and all parties forming Janata Parivar will have to give to Election Commission in writing that they don’t want to be independent anymore.
"If any political party write to the Election Commission that they are going to merge and are going to form a new party then the original name, symbol of the party will freeze. Bihar elections are near. The process of merger cannot be completed in a hurry," Ramgopal said.
Another sticking point is the declaration of assets of all parties and the formation of a single pool of resources.
Meanwhile, JDU President Sharad Yadav refused to comment on the matter and said, "Mulayam Singh is responsible for the merger. He has been appointed by all the parties, he should be asked the question."
A few days back, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the process of merger of splinter parties into one unit was "treading its own path."
"During my Delhi stay I had fruitful talks with Mulayam Singh Yadav, Lalu Prasad and Sharad Yadav. There was talks within JDU too," Kumar had said.
"Everything is moving in the right direction. Merger process is treading its own path and positive results will come," he said.
Reports also said Kumar and Lalu Prasad had detailed discussion on number of seats they would contest in the Bihar Assembly poll.
The proposed merger of Samajwadi Party, Janata Dal United, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Indian National Lok Dal, Janata Dal Secular and Samajwadi Janata Party was announced on April 15 by Sharad Yadav.
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav was named the National President of the to-be-formed new party.
Sharad Yadav had announced the formation of a committee comprising of Mulayam Singh Yadav, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, INLD leader OP Chautala, Sharad Yadav, Kamal Morarka and Ram Gopal to decide on the name of the new party, its symbol, flag, ideology and strategy.
The parties decided to merge together to form a new party to take on a resurgent BJP, especially in context of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
