Diplomats warn of India-Pakistan nuclear exchange: WikiLeaks

Despite pending economic catastrophe, Pakistan is producing nuclear weapons at a faster rate than any other country in the world, U.S. ambassador to Islamabad, Anne Patterson is believed to have said in a cable to Washington. American and British diplomats fear Pakistan’s nuclear programme could lead to fissile material falling into the hands of terrorists or a devastating nuclear exchange with India.

Spain arrests seven over links to Mumbai attacks

MADRID (Reuters) - Seven men have been arrested in Barcelona, accused of providing fake identification documents to al Qaeda-linked groups including the one that carried out the Mumbai attacks in 2008, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday. Six Pakistanis and one Nigerian were arrested on Tuesday and early Wednesday accused of stealing passports and other travel documents from tourists in Barcelona and sending them to Thailand where they were falsified and passed to extremist organised crime groups, it said in a press release.

India denies visa to former Pak President Pervez Musharraf

India on Wednesday denied visa to former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf. Musharraf was invited to attend a seminar hosted by the Young Presidents Organization. The conference was scheduled to be held in Delhi on Saturday. Sources close to Home Ministry revealed that government doubted Musharraf’s real intentions of visiting India. Musharraf’s recent statements defending Kargil operations may also be a behind the denial of visa.

Wipro said on Wednesday its chairman Azim Premji [ Images ] will transfer 213 million equity shares of the company to a trust controlled by him. Premji will transfer 213,000,000 equity shares of Wipro [ Get Quote ], held by entities controlled by him, to an irrevocable trust, Wipro said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

17-yr-old jumps into girlfriends funeral pyre, kills self

SIRSA: In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old boy allegedly jumped into the funeral pyre of his girlfriend who had committed suicide after her parents refused to accept their relationship. The incident took place in the Rori village of Sirsa district on Monday. While the girl, Veer Pal Kaur, was a student of Class IX, her boyfriend, Bittu Singh, a native of Malsinghwala village of Punjab, studied in Class XI. The two had been studying in the same school and had been going around for the past couple of years.

The Lank village council feared young men and women were secretly calling one another to arrange elopements. 30,000 Indian students have left Australia in one year: magazine

A spate of attacks, tough visa norms and denial of permanent residency have caused around 30,000 Indian students, mostly based in Melbourne, to leave Australia in the past year, claims the Federation of Indian Students in Australia (FISA). The figure is quoted in the latest issue of Indian Student, published from Melbourne. The magazine in its editorial says Australia is no more a favourite destination for Indian students with this huge exodus in a year’s time.

Iran condemns leaks on Arab calls for attack

Iran’s president said on Monday that leaked American diplomatic memos recounting Arab calls for the U.S. to launch a strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities were intended to stir “mischief.” According to the memos released on Sunday by online whistle-blower Wikileaks, King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia repeatedly urged the United States to attack Iran to destroy its nuclear programme to stop Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.

Tantrik arrested for raping 3 teens

MUMBAI: In a shocking incident, an Antop Hill tantrik was arrested by the JJ Marg police on Sunday evening for allegedly raping three teenaged girls from south Mumbai over a period of four years. The oldest victim, aged 19, is from the Crawford Market area and a commerce student in a reputed south Mumbai college. The second victim, aged 18, is from Colaba and an MBBS student. The third victim, a Class V student, is only 13 years old and a resident of the JJ Marg area.
