Kemmannu Youth Crowned Unit Champions at ICYM Udupi’s Yuva Dabazo 2.0

The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM), Diocese of Udupi, held a vibrant diocesan youth convention, Yuva Dabazo 2.0, at Milagres Tricentenary Hall, Kallianpur, on 28th September 2025. The annual event brought together youth from parishes across the diocese, providing a platform to showcase a plethora of talents and to foster unity and teamwork among young minds.

The convention began with a solemn Inaugural Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr Roshan Monteiro OCD (Rishivana). The Valedictory Programme was presided over by Rev. Msgr Ferdinand Gonsalves, Vicar General of the Diocese of Udupi, with Mr. Inesh Miranda, former ICYM Udupi Diocesan President and corporate leadership trainer with Hyatt Hotels, as the Chief Guest. The event was hosted under the leadership of Mr. Nithin Baretto (President, ICYM Udupi Diocese) and Rev. Fr Steevan Fernandes (Director, ICYM Udupi Diocese), along with the ICYM Central Council members.

The festival lineup included Udupi’s Got Talent (UGT), where participants showcased performances under three minutes; Pilgrima, a model-making competition on the theme Pilgrims of Hope; BibliCart, a poster-making competition inspired by miracles and faith; Brain Blitz, a challenging quiz; and the intense Best Manager contest that tested the leadership and managerial abilities of the youth. The most entertaining event, however, was the electrifying Battle of Bands, where the five deaneries went toe-to-toe in a spectacular fusion of dance, music, and drama.

Amidst the participation of 52 units from across the diocese, the youth of Kemmannu Parish emerged victorious by clinching the prestigious Unit Championship, making their presence felt across multiple categories. Their remarkable achievements included:

- First Place – Pilgrima (model-making competition): Ishney, Joy, Joyston, Joyson, Nikhita, and Jimson
  Second Place – Best Manager: Jovita Andrade
  Second Place – BibliCart: Nishita, Nikitha, Princivia, and Sonal

Adding to their success, the short film “Undo”, a sci-fi thriller, was declared the Best Short Film of the Convention, with Joy D’Souza as the cinematographer and Ishney in the role of a mother.

The Kallianpur Deanery clinched the Battle of Bands title, with Kemmannu youth making strong contributions: Elton and Alden on instruments, Ishney and Mclean on vocals, along with Ryan, Joyson, and Joyston in the dance segment, and Jimson and Joy in the drama act.

The outstanding performance of the Kemmannu Parish youth not only earned them the Unit Championship but also brought immense pride and joy to their parish community. Their collective spirit, creativity, and dedication truly embodied the essence of Yuva Dabazo 2.0 — faith, fellowship, and youthful energy in action.
