Parish Level inaugural Badminton Little Flower Cup 2024 held in Kemmannu.

Udupi, October 13, 2024: The parish level inaugural Little Flower Cup 2024 Badminton Doubles Tournament organized by Team Kemmanites, with the encouragement of Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Philip Neri was successfully held on Sunday, 13th October 2024 at Little Flower Hall, St. Theresa’s Church, Kemmannu.  Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Philip Neri and Parish Council Vice President Mr. Thomas D Souza inaugurated the tournament.  Parish members of Kemmannu Church, young and old alike, gathered in large numbers to watch the games and to cheer and encourage the players.  The entire day’s event was streamed online by team kemmannu.com enabling non-resident parishioners to watch their friends, families and loved ones taking part in the tournament.

In total, 36 teams participated and played 39 matches in 4 categories – Under-17 Boys Doubles, Women’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Men’s Doubles.  The tournament saw participation from all the wards (vaado) of Kemmannu Parish.  The day began with the matches for the Under-17 Boys category, in round-robin format.  Other category matches were held in knock-out format in the afternoon session.   The evening session saw tough competition among the teams in semi-final and final matches.  The watching crowd was also entertained by two exhibition matches held between guest players and a priest from neighbouring parishes.  Winners and Runners-up trophies were distributed by Parish Priest.  In his concluding remarks, the Parish Priest encouraged young and old to continue playing in the newly laid court in Church Hall and advised senior players to train youngsters so that there will not be any gap in talent pool in Kemmannu Parish.    Kemmanite boys’ start-up Coastal Café hosted their food stall and treated all with their delightful and tasty snacks and cool drinks throughout the day.
