Udupi Floods: Lost Country Boat handed over to the owners at Kukkude/Kemmannu.

Kemmannu Sep 25, 2020: The devastating Udupi Floods on 20th of September, 2020 not only wracked havoc in the district but also the lives of the people were turned miserable as many lost their homes, losses to their property, vehicles, crop and so on.

But on the other hand many helped the stranded to safer places, provided food, shelter and showed-up their humanitarian role during this tragedy. In such an incident a country boat belongs to Havanjje Grama Panchyat was swept away in the floods of River Swarna after its rope got broken due to heavy  wind was notices by Kukkude resident Mr. Eddy D’souza in Kukkude. Having the knowledge of the cost and misery of the people loosing it,  Mr. Eddy immediately  swung into to action, with the help of his children  he took his boat to the overflowing flooded river and was able to get hold of the lost boat and brought it to the safety.

When Havanjee Grama Panchyat came to know about their lost boat started to spread the word about it in Whatsapp groups and that reached Kukkude Eddy and contacted Mr. Sathish Shetty the immediate past president of Havanjje Grama Panchayat and informed him about getting a boat in Kukkde.

Now after completing the verification Process, the boat has been handed over, brought back and anchored at the shore of Killanje River which is about 6 to 7 hours journey from Kukkude. According to Eddy the boat is in good condition, No damages to it even-though it has passed through the pillars of Uppor bridge.

Mr. Udaya Kotian, Sadu Poojary, Eishwar Poojary, Relwin D’souza and Sathish Shetty, Eddy D’souza and other panchayat members were present during the handing over in Kukkde/Kemmannu.

Havanjee Panchayat has thanked all who helped to bring back the boat and specially to Eddy Dsouza for his courage to get hold of the moving boat from the floods and handing over to the right owners.
